This calendar is presented by Suburban Cyclists Unlimited, and lists recreational bicycle events that take place within approximately 150 miles of Horsham, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Unless marked "SCU", these events are not affiliated with, nor endorsed by, Suburban Cyclists Unlimited. Events are subject to cancellation, and dates may change. Please read the disclaimer!

Sun. Sept. 2, 2018, Tour de Farm Sussex County, Augusta, NJ. Ride 14, 26 or 65 mi with breakfast and farm tastings included with registration.

Mon. Sept. 3, 2018, Donut Derby, Valley Preferred Cycling Center (Trexlertown Velodrome), Breinigsville, PA. 36-mi fun race on a figure-8 course with the donut zone in the middle. Sat. Sept. 8, 2018, AJ Foundation Ride for Autism, Yardley, PA. Ride 12, 18, 31 or 62 mi over the rolling terrain of Bucks County. Registration includes continental breakfast and a full lunch. Benefits the AJ Foundation For Children With Autism and the Comprehensive Learning Center.

Sat. Sept. 8, 2018, Amish Country Bike Tour, Dover, DE. New start location: Delaware Agricultural Museum & Village. Ride 15, 25, 50, 62 or 100 mi on flat terrain. Mass start at 8:00am with police traffic control through Dover - riders have the right-of-way with no stopping at traffic lights or stop signs for the first 3 miles, or show-and-go start 7:00-10:00am without police traffic control.

Sat. Sept. 8, 2018, Civil War Century, Thurmont, MD. Very scenic, 25-mi rolling, 51- or 64-mi rolling-hilly, 75- or 103-mi hilly, on low-traffic roads; 1,150 - 6,900 ft climbing. Limited to 1,600 riders and expected to sell out. No day-of-event registration. Baltimore Bicycle Club

Sat. Sept. 8, 2018, Skipjack Bike Tour, Deal Island, MD. Ride 15, 30 or 65 mi on the flat, scenic Eastern Shore. Benefits the Deal Island/Chance Volunteer Fire Co.

Sat. Sept. 8, 2018, Sourland Spectacular, Skillman, NJ. Ride 5, 27, 35, 52 or 65 mi; all routes include climbing, as Sourland Mountain is beautiful, but not flat. Benefits the Sourland Conservancy.

Sat. Sept. 8, 2018, South Jersey Tour des Farms, Vincentown, NJ. Ride 15, 29 or 50 mi on flat terrain. Stop at designated farm markets and your optional market purchases will be delivered to the starting point. South Jersey Resource Conservation & Development Council

Sept. 8-9, 2018, Wild Goose Chase, Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, Cambridge, MD. This is a women's-only event! Ride 25-65 mi in the vicinity of the very scenic Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Benefits Friends of Blackwater.

Sun. Sept. 9, 2018, Bikes and Beers Philadelphia, Yards Brewing, Philadelphia, PA. Ride 15 or 30 mi. Registration includes 2 Yards beers after the ride and a souvenir pint glass.

Sun. Sept. 9, 2018, Cycle 4 Awareness, Barnegat Light, NJ. Ride 5, 18 or 36 mi on Long Beach Island. Benefits Cycle4Awareness, an organization that supports kids with special needs.

Sun. Sept. 9, 2018, Gran Fondo NJ, Morristown, NJ. Ride 18, 42, 62, 75 or 107 mi with 1,240-8,100 ft of climbing.

Sun. Sept. 9, 2018, Library IV Ride for the Sunshine Foundation, Williamstown, NJ.  Ride 30 or 46 miles. Benefits the Sunshine Foundation.

Sun. Sept. 9, 2018, New York City Century, New York, NY. Ride all-urban routes of 15, 35, 55, 75 or 100 mi. Benefits Transportation Alternatives, the New York City bicycle-advocacy organization.

Sun. Sept. 9, 2018, Scenic Schuylkill Century, AIM Academy, Miquon, PA. Start on River Road between Manayunk and Conshohocken, with free on-site parking and the Miquon SEPTA station across the street. Scenic town and country 21-101-mi routes in Philadelphia and Montgomery County. Breakfast at the start and food trucks at the finish. Bicycle Club of Philadelphia (BCP)

Sun. Sept. 9, 2018, Thompson Bucks County Classic Cyclosportif, Doylestown, PA. Ride 31 or 60 mi. Held in conjunction with the Thompson Bucks County Classic Criterium men's and women's professional races, amateur race, Lenape Scorcher highwheel bicycle race, and the Doylestown Arts Festival.

Fri.-Sat. Sept. 14-15, 2018, BR2RB Bike-a-Thon, Quarryville, PA to Rehoboth Bay, DE. One-way rides, Fri: 80, 100, 125 or 145 mi; Sat: 50, 80, 100, 125 or 145 mi. Return transportation is provided. $200 minimum fundraising. Benefits Black Rock Retreat.

Sat. Sept. 15, 2018, American Dream - Bike Millersville, Millersville University, Millersville, PA. Ride 5, 10, 20, 30 or 60 mi through rural Lancaster County. Pre-registration only! Benefits American Dream Scholarship at Millersville University.

Sat. Sept. 15, 2018, #CaringForRare Bicycle Event, Lambertville, NJ. Ride 15 mi on the towpath. See Sept. 16 listing below for road-rides of 31, 62 or 100 mi. Benefits Avery's Hope.

Sat. Sept. 15, 2018, Foster 100, Philadelphia, PA. Ride 100 mi from Philadelphia to Cape May, NJ, one-way. Every cyclist rides with an assigned team based on experience and ability level. Team Foster raises money to partner service dogs with tri-state area veterans suffering from combat-related disabilities.

Sat. Sept. 15, 2018, Jersey Devil Century, Parvin State Park, Centerton, NJ. Ride 25 or 50 mi on flat terrain in the morning and afternoon; routes can be combined for 50, 75 or 100 mi. South Jersey Wheelmen [Editor's comment: Uncertain about riding 50 miles? Ride the morning 25-mi loop, eat a good lunch at the start location, and then decide to either call it quits or ride the afternoon 25-mi loop.]

Sat. Sept. 15, 2018, RCDCU Bike-a-Thon, Franklin Middle School, Somerset, NJ. Ride 3, 10, 30 or 50 mi through central New Jersey including along the scenic Delaware Raritan Canal. Ride to promote prostate cancer awareness. Renaissance Cyclists Defeating Cancer United, Inc. (RCDCU) is a nonprofit 501 (C) (3).

Sun. Sept. 16, 2018, Breakthrough Bike Challenge, Daniel Boone Homestead, Birdsboro, PA. Ride 12, 25 or 50 mi through the scenic, low-traffic Oley Valley. Post ride lunch and music included with registration. Benefits Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center.

Sun. Sept. 16, 2018, #CaringForRare Bicycle Event, Flemington, NJ. Ride 31, 62 or 100 mi in Hunterdon and Bucks Counties. See Sept. 15 listing above for 15-mi towpath ride. Benefits Avery's Hope.

Sun. Sept. 16, 2018, Cool Cape Cycling, Cape May Winery, Cape May, NJ. Ride 15, 30 or 55 mi. All participants must be age 21 or over. Organized by Run Amuck Timing LLC.

Sun. Sept. 16, 2018, Country Roads Bicycle Tour, Warwick, NY. Ride 10, 25, 42 or 64 mi on uncrowded roads through Orange County in New York’s Hudson Valley. Benefits Catholic Charities of Orange County, NY, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, and the Sanctuary for Animals.

Sun. Sept 16, 2018, Ride for Clean Rivers, Chesapeake College, Wye Mills, MD. Ride 20, 35 or 62 mi in Talbot and Queen Anne's Counties on Maryland’s scenic Eastern Shore. Benefits ShoreRivers, a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration and protection of rivers on the Eastern Shore.

Sun. Sept. 16, 2018, Three Creek Century, Newville, PA. Ride 25, 50, 75 or 100 mi on lightly-traveled roads along and over the scenic Conodoguinet, Yellow Breeches and Big Spring creeks. Ride the optional South Mountain Challenge on the 50-mi route, climbing 1,000-ft up Big Flat. Or ride 18-mi on the unpaved Cumberland Valley Rail Trail. Harrisburg Bicycle Club

Sat. Sept. 22, 2018, Bike4Beds Harvest Ride, Valley Preferred Cycling Center (Trexlertown Velodrome), Breinigsville, PA. Ride 30-mi gently rolling or 62-mi rolling-hilly with a climb up Hawk Mountain. Fundraising is optional. Benefits the Cavaillon Orphanage in Haiti. , Chadds Ford, PA. Ride 25, 45 or 80 mi, rolling-hilly, through the beautiful Brandywine Creek Greenway and surrounding countryside. Benefits the Brandywine Conservancy.

Sat. Sept. 22, 2018, Honor Ride Philadelphia, Central Park Doylestown, Doylestown, PA. Ride 19, 40 or 63 mi through scenic Bucks County. Benefits Project Hero for veteran rehabilitation services.

Sat. Sept. 22, 2018, Escape New York, New York, NY. Start in Manhattan and ride 25, 50, 65 or 100 mi across the George Washington Bridge and into the West Hudson Highlands of Bergen and Rockland Counties. New York Cycle Club

Sat. Sept. 22, 2018, Ride for Trails, Gettysburg Recreational Park, Gettysburg, PA. Ride 12 or 25 mi through the Gettysburg National Military Park and over picturesque Sachs Covered Bridge. Benefits Healthy Adams Bicycle/Pedestrian, Inc. (HABPI), a non-profit group working to develop walking and bicycling trails in Adams County.

Sat. Sept. 22, 2018, Tour de Farm Warren County, Blairstown, NJ. Ride 18, 42 or 61 mi with breakfast and farm tastings included with registration.

Sat. Sept. 22, 2018, Tour de Sussex, Delaware Technical Community College, Georgetown, DE. Ride 25, 50 or 62 mi.

Sun. Sept. 23, 2018, Bike the Beach, Jennings Beach, Fairfield, CT. Ride 10, 20, or 45 mi on flat-to-rolling terrain, or 62 mi, flat to hilly. Start from the beach and ride through up to five historic New England towns on the Connecticut side of Long Island Sound. All of the routes pass by scenic beach and ocean views. Benefits people with developmental disabilities through the Probus Club of Greater Bridgeport.

Sun. Sept. 23, 2018, Tom's Ride for Vickie's Angel Walk, Hellam, PA (east of York, PA). Ride 15, 30 or 60 mi on hilly terrain. Or ride the 50-mi gravel loop. Pasta lunch after the ride. Register by 8/31 to receive a free T-shirt. Benefits Vickie's Angel Walk, providing financial assistance to families fighting cancer.

Sept. 28-30, 2018, Tour de Pink® East Coast, Long Island, NY. Options include a 100-mi ride and a one-day ride. Benefits the Young Survival Coalition (YSC), an organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Sat. Sept. 29, 2018, Fall VeloFest, Valley Preferred Cycling Center (Trexlertown Velodrome), Breinigsville, PA. Outdoor swap meet. 8:30am to 2:00pm.

Sat. Sept. 29, 2018, Ride for the River, Pottstown, PA. Ride 16 or 40 mi, primarily on the Schuylkill River Trail. New this year - optional hill climb. Held in conjunction with the Sly Fox Brewing Company's CAN JAM Music Festival. Benefits the Schuylkill River Greenway Association (SRGA), a 501(c)3 non-profit.

Sat. Sept. 29, 2018, Savage Century, Newark, DE. Ride 40, 60, 80 or 100 mi. The 40- and 60-mi routes have a few shorter climbs, while the major hills are on the 80- and 100-mi routes. White Clay Bicycle Club (WCBC)

Sat. Sept. 29, 2018, Shoo-Fly Classic Bike Ride, Oley, PA. Ride 20, 40 or 60 mi, rolling-hilly, through the scenic, low-traffic Oley Valley. Berks County Bicycle Club

Sept. 29-30, 2018, MS150 City to Shore Ride, Cherry Hill, NJ, to Ocean City, NJ. Multiple start locations; ride 1 or 2 days, 25-180 mi total. Benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Sun. Sept. 30, 2018, Century for the Cure, Camp Riverbend, Warren, NJ. Ride 25, 40, 62 or 100 mi. $115 registration includes rider jersey, cycling socks and water bottle; $500 fundraising minimum. Benefits the Cancer Institute of NJ.

Sun. Sept. 30, 2018, Twin Lights Ride, Highlands, NJ. Ride 15, 30, 55, 75 or 100 mi. Benefits Bike New York.

October 2018

Wed.-Sun. Oct. 3-7, 2018, Tour de Pines, various start locations in the Pinelands National Reserve, NJ. Five consecutive single-day (loop) bicycle tours of the scenic, low-traffic New Jersey Pinelands. Ride 1-5 days for one registration fee. This unusual event has ride leaders, but no road markings - read the F.A.Q. (PDF). Bring or buy your own food. The ride leader will average 11-13 mph, but faster groups will go off the front and follow the cue sheet. Benefits the Pinelands Preservation Alliance.

Sat. Oct. 6, 2018, Adamstown Dirty Dozen Hill Climb, Reinholds, PA. Ride 38 or 64 mi, with 3,500 or 9,100 ft of climbing, hills up to 20% grade. Pre-registration is mandatory.

Sat. Oct. 6, 2018, Bike MS: Mason-Dixon Challenge, Gettysburg Recreational Park, Gettysburg, PA. The Mason-Dixon Challenge will be a one-day ride only this year. Ride 30 or 62 mi. $150 minimum fundraising. Benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Sat. Oct. 6, 2018, Bike the Delaware River, Bulls Island Recreation Area, Stockton, NJ. Ride 7, 18 or 25 mi on the unpaved (fine-cinder and hard-packed dirt) canal towpaths. Limited to 50 riders, and advance registration is required. Benefits the Delaware Riverkeeper Network.

Sat. Oct. 6, 2018, MLAR Gran Fondo, Chester Springs, PA. Ride 9, 25, 31 or 62 mi on the beautiful rolling hills of Chester County, with up to 4 timed hill climbs, followed by a post-ride beer garden party. Fundraising is optional. Benefits Main Line Animal Rescue.

Sat. Oct. 6, 2018, River Towns Ride & Festival, Delaware City, DE and New Castle, DE. Ride one or more 10-mi (one-way) segments between Delaware City and New Castle, starting at 11:00am. New for 2018: This year you have the option to ride the new Markell Trail, which connects the Wilmington Riverfront to Historic New Castle and Historic Delaware City. [Updated 8/16/2018]

Sat. Oct. 6, 2018, Sea Gull Century, Salisbury University, Salisbury, MD. Ride 65 or 100 mi on the flat Eastern Shore of Maryland. 7,500 riders.

Sat. Oct. 6, 2018, Urban Farm Bike Ride, Philadelphia, PA. Ride through Philadelphia, stopping to explore urban agricultural sites and chat with some of the farmers who help maintain the city’s vibrant farm landscape. Benefits Food Moxie.

Bicycling Fall Classic, Trexlertown, PA. Cancelled for 2018! Bicycling Magazine.

Sun. Oct. 7, 2018, Lifeline 100 Century, Kinder Farm Park, Millersville, MD. Ride 15, 30, 62 or 100 mi through scenic Anne Arundel County. The 15- and 30-mi routes utilize the paved B&A and BWI trails.

Sun. Oct. 7, 2018, Pedal4Cam, Exton, PA. Three ride options: 1) 20- or 45-mi on-road; 2) 5-, 8-, 12- or 16-mi off-road (MTB) in Marsh Creek State Park; 3) 3-mi family ride or walk. Pedal4Cam is being held as part of the Eagleview Town Center Falling Leaf Festival. Benefits the Cure4Cam Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Sat. Oct. 13, 2018, Ride Strong Roubaix, Horseshoe Bend Park, Kingwood Township, NJ. Ride 20, 40 or 60 mi, with up to 3,300-ft of climbing. $200 Fundraising Minimum.

Sat. Oct. 13, 2018, Rohrbach's Garage Bike Race, Alburtis, PA. Cancelled for 2018!

Oct. 13-14, 2018, Bike MS: Bike to the Bay, Dover, DE to Rehoboth Beach, DE. Multiple start locations; ride 1 or 2 days, 17-175 mi total. $300 minimum fundraising. Benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Sun. Oct. 14, 2018, Chupacrabra Crush, Reading, PA. Ride 26, 49 or 65 mi. Routes are a mixture of road, CX, and MTB. Longer routes are more MTB heavy. Benefits Angelica Creek Watershed Foundation.

Sun. Oct. 14, 2018, Covered Bridges Ride, Erwinna, PA. Enjoy the fall foliage of Central and Upper Bucks County with a choice of five routes: the family-friendly 20- and 30-mi flat routes use the towpath along the Delaware river, which is a fine-cinder and hard-packed dirt trail, for part of the ride, or the hilly 33-, 50- and 63-mi routes on paved roads. Travel through up to six historic covered bridges. Central Bucks Bicycle Club (CBBC)

Sun. Oct. 14, 2018, Farm to Fork Fondo, Whitesbog Historic Village, Browns Mills, NJ. Ride 35, 55 or 80 mi on flat terrain.

Sun. Oct. 14, 2018, Ride Ataxia Philadelphia, Blue Bell, PA. Ride 4, 8, 25 or 50 mi through scenic, low-traffic sections of Montgomery County. Benefits the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA).

Oct. 19-21, 2018, Fall Foliage Weekend, Hanover / Gettysburg, PA. Ride various distances on your own or group rides with leaders. Includes cue sheets, meals, snacks, parties, and hotel accommodations (with indoor pool/whirlpool). Advance registration is required. Bicycle Club of Philadelphia (BCP)

Sat. Oct. 27, 2018, Two Rivers Bike Ride, Centreville, MD. Ride 15, 30, 65 or 100 mi, touring the Corsica and Chester Rivers on Maryland's beautiful Eastern Shore. Benefits the Wye River Upper School and the YMCA of the Chesapeake.

The listing of an event in this calendar does not constitute an endorsement by SCU or by the editor. All rides and activities posted on this list are the sole responsibility of the individual organizers of and participants in the ride or activity. All participants in rides and activities appearing on this list do so at their own risk and assume responsibility for all hazards, injuries, and other risks inherent in such rides and activities. Roads will be open to motor-vehicle traffic; extreme caution must be used while riding.

Events and dates are subject to change! Although this list is compiled from reliable sources, SCU and the editor are not responsible for errors or omissions. Please contact the event sponsor to confirm the date, registration deadlines and fees, start times, and services provided. We do not predict dates based on the prior year's calendar. When requesting information by mail, please send a S.A.S.E. to the sponsor.

All distances are listed in miles ("mi"). To convert to metric: 1 mi = 1.6 km; 1 km = 0.62 mi. 31 mi = Half Metric Century (50 km); 62 mi = Metric Century (100 km). All rides are on-road tours unless noted off-road. All events provide water stops, cue sheets, marked route, and SAG support, unless noted, but SCU is not responsible for the services provided at events on this calendar. All rides return to the starting location unless marked "one-way". Two-day events are Saturday-Sunday and three-day events are Friday-Sunday unless marked otherwise. There are no ride leaders for these events, and you ride at your own pace.

Suburban Cyclists Unlimited does not list other clubs' rides that conflict with the major SCU events (May 19, 2018 - Quad County Metric). Commercial tours are not listed other than from sponsors of SCU or at the discretion of the editor. Indoor "spinning" events and randonnee events are not listed on this calendar.

Suburban Cyclists Unlimited is a recreational bicycle club, and we do not support or promote racing. Triathlons, duathlons, amateur races, criteriums and time trials are not listed on this web site.
