    • Signature Event Director

President
Steve Muth

After a sort of sabbatical, I am interested in rejoining the Executive Committee again by running for President for 2024. As you may know, I have been on and off the Executive Committee for a number of years. I have been Ride Director in 2009, President from 2010 to 2013 and in 2017, Event Director in 2018, and President 2019 to 2022. I am now retired after having enjoyed two careers in civil engineering and education. Skills developed in these workplaces have proven valuable while working on the Executive Committee as well. In addition to administering the usual club matters, I think an important role of the President is to guide the Executive Committee in identifying and providing for the membership's evolving needs. The rides and the social events must change with the times in order to keep the club relevant to both long-time and new members. I will feel honored if you will vote for me to lead the Executive Committee in the coming year.

Treasurer
Savannah Lee

Savannah is the current SCU treasurer.  She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Her experience includes two years in public accounting, seven years corporate accounting, and two years government accounting. Savannah has also performed financial management roles in an academic medical organization, Jefferson Health System. Currently she is employed by the Department of Treasury, Philadelphia Mint overseeing cost management.

She has an MBA from La Salle University, graduated May 2022 and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Gwynedd Mercy University in Gwynedd Valley and graduated magna cum laude in 2010. She has been a CPA since 2014 in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is a member of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

She is also a member of the Armed Forces, 13 years United States Navy (five and half year’s active duty and 7 years reservist) and 4 years of Army reserve. She had served as a Healthcare Administrator, Finance Officer and now is a Civil Affairs officer.  Savannah joined SCU in December 2021 and is an avid rider, regularly riding 40 to 80 miles a week. Riding with groups gives her motivation to be a better rider and is a great way to meet new friends.

Ride Leader Director
Curtis Schwartz

My name is Curtis Schwartz and I would like to run for the ride director position for 2024.  This would be my 5th term.  I’m an avid cyclist and lead rides for the club all year around.  I volunteer as rest stop coordinator for the Summer Century and other cycling events.  I do self-supported bike camping and touring.  I try to help the clubs’ ride leaders with whatever they need to lead group rides, help recruit new ride leaders, help manage the ride leader awards and recognitions, while overall trying to keep things simple.

IT Director
Jim Hill

Active, enthusiastic member of SCU for three years, experience as board member secretary: Love to be outdoors and thoroughly enjoy everything about cycling especially getting see the world at a such a nice pace and meeting new folks. I am on a quest to find the ultimate Cranberry oatmeal cookie. Giving back is crucial to the success of any club.

Social Director
Chrislee Butcher

My name is Chrislee ( it’s like Bruce Lee but Chris) aka Pat- the club photographer’s shadow, I mean daughter. While I’m not a bicyclist. (gasp! I know BUT at least I have a bike haha) , I am usually found amongst the crews that help the riders before and after their events. I have always loved sports, helping athletes and planning large scale events, so this role will be a great combination of what I most enjoy doing, especially for a great club like the SCU. Upon each event or ride that I tagged along with my mom to, I have always left so inspired and encouraged from my interactions with the riders of this club. You all don’t just make me laugh, but you also embrace me like your own- even if I’m just a runner. I would love to serve as a Social Director for the SCU for this upcoming year as a way to usher fun, memorable, and impactful moments for riders to connect with each other.

Best,
Chrislee Butcher

Membership Director
Pat Butcher

I'm running for the Membership Coordinator position, to be an official help to this wonderful Suburban Cyclist Unlimited club. I moved to Pennsylvania from northern New Jersey this year. In NJ, I occasionally rode my bike with a great local club, but I was focused on being a very committed competitive runner. That is until one of my knees eliminated most of its cartilage. Sadly, I had to give up running to avoid surgery, but my bicycle was screaming for some riding. So, my cycling journey began.

Shortly after beginning cycling, life changes had me move out of NJ. I sat around for six weeks gaining weight, suffering from tremendous knee pain, enduring spreading arthritis in hands and feet, and ignoring any form of exercise. Doctors prescribed surgery, medications, and frequent appointments. A week before I was to go under for surgery number one, I backed out, jumped on my bike, and looked for SCU. I spent three weeks trying to lose weight and get into shape, to at least ride with a C-group, with another local PA club. Mission accomplished. Then the time came to join a ride with SCU. Oh My Word! I've never seen so many HILLS in my life, nor met so many riders that liked them. During my rides with the group I had discovered that I was highly allergic to hills, but the SCU riders ignored my whining and encouraged me to keep riding. I was feeling all of the SCU love.

Sharon had a huge hand in my perseverance, Tom in my climbing, Katie in my joy, Chris in my speed, Steve in my courage, Wes in my drive, and SOOOO MANY more SCU riders had encouraged, guided, welcomed, and aided me, especially with water. That's a tremendous amount of love from a club. So, here I am now, after many SCU rides that included hundreds of climbs and granola bars, tons of laughter and excitement, plenty of learning opportunities and growth, and a whole lot of praying, now riding in a faster group, with less health problems, a greater passion for cycling, and joyful love for the entire Suburban Cyclist Unlimited club. Even my daughter, who never wants to ride a bike, loves helping SCU and hearing stories about my riding adventures with SCU. That speaks volumes about the beauties of being an SCU member. I'm loving it all.

Suburban Unlimited Cyclists has taken me to this incredible new height of riding and deeper love for its members. For that, I am very grateful and want to extend the SCU love by being a help to its overall membership. From the couch, to the pedal, over the climbs, to the Suburban Cyclist Unlimited family, I'm all in!

Secretary
Helen Muth
Helen Muth
I have been involved with SCU since 2007, and you have probably already seen me working to support the centuries and social events, often planning and serving the food for base camp or for the picnic. Also, I have been previously appointed to temporarily serve as Secretary to fill an unplanned vacancy. I have worked in various capacities in other non-profit/volunteer organizations as well. My career has focused on managing software and IT projects, and I hope to apply many of the same personal skills to my role on the Executive Committee. I look forward to being more involved in helping SCU and the membership achieve their bicycling and club goals.
